Thai Side-Lying

April 23 | US$160
Crow’s Wing Studio, 200 NW Bowdoin Pl.
Seattle, WA 98107 United States

The Thai Side-lying workshop employs compressions, point work and stretching to address the neck, back, arms and legs. We learn methods to work the whole body, in fact, using the practitioner’s feet, palms, forearms, elbows and knees, with minimal use of those hard-working thumbs. They deserve a rest. With a firm pillow under the head, the recipient loves this body position, often commenting “Aaah! This is how I sleep!” and sometimes they do doze off. Somewhat physically demanding, Thai massage requires you to be comfortable sitting on your feet with your legs folded under you. Painful joints of any kind are obstacles to doing this work. Pain is never the intention. Thai massage can be deep and somewhat forceful or light and relaxing, depending on the participant’s goals and the practitioner’s style. We will address the history, theory and current practice of this modality, but the workshop is 99.9% hands-on learning. You will partner up with another participant, watch a demo of each segment, and then try it yourself with supervision by the instructor and a trained TA. You will switch partners frequently.

Using Your Feet in Thai Massage

April 28 - April 30 | $375
Spirit Winds School of Thai Massage, P. O. Box 2326
Nevada City, CA 95959 United States

This 3-day course explores the many ways to creatively and effectively use your feet as you work in traditional Thai massage. Some previous experience in Thai massage is required. We study and refine several critical techniques for working lateral and posterior leg lines, the hips and the upper and lower back. We focus on ways to utilize sensing with our feet to detect energy blocks and pockets of tension, and ways to ground ourselves while using feet in a standing position. We also practice ways to use the feet for gentle balancing and suspension poses that encourage tension and stress to leave our clients.

Working with your feet helps to create more grounded and balanced sessions for clients. It also allows the therapist to work in a more relaxed state, and reduces stress and muscle tension. When the therapist is relaxed and is working from the core, the client responds more positively, and the process of self healing is encouraged.

This an extremely popular workshop which can easily change the way you approach your work on the mat. Join us for a unique and fun workshop. Stop palming so much, and use your feet!
