Introduction to Thai Medicinal Herbs

September 7 | $150
Zion Massage College, 567 South Valley View Drive
St George, Utah, 84770 United States

This one-day workshop is a basic introduction to the herbal healing traditions of Thailand. Medicinal herbs are an intrinsic component of the ancient healing traditions of Thailand, and they have many applications in the modern world. Thai herbs and roots are freshly mixed to prepare poultices, teas, bath infusions, and herbal compresses. The compresses are steamed, and then applied to the body to relieve stress, to ease tension and to bring about a calm state of mind.

The course presents a basic understanding and working knowledge of the medicinal properties of major Thai herbs, preparation of herbal infusions and poultices, and basic knowledge of Thai herbal compress therapy. There is discussion, mixing, tasting, and preparing herbs, and a review of application techniques in bodywork. We will discuss conditions that are suited for treatment with herbs and compresses, and we review Thai massage techniques and concepts for both hot and cold herbal compresses. The effects of a Thai herbal session can be truly amazing; aches and pains seem to fade away, and you feel relaxed yet energized.
All materials are included.

This enjoyable workshop presents concepts and techniques for working the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face.

Working in all four body positions, we explore a wide variety of techniques using feet, palms, forearms, elbows, thumbs and fingers.

In this class we explore new and interesting techniques to release stored tension through stretches, compressions, fascia release, light suspensions, acupressure, and opening techniques. We also review and refine traditional Thai techniques for the shoulders, upper back, and neck. Finally, a wide variety of manual techniques and pressure points for the head and face are presented, many of which are not usually taught in traditional Thai massage courses. Many of the techniques are adaptable to other types of bodywork.

Herbal balms, waters and sometimes herbal compresses and are used for some of the face and neck techniques. Students have plenty of time to give and receive each day. This is always an enjoyable workshop because the mood is meditative, and everyone loves to receive work on their shoulders.
